WCS Bangladesh seeks to reverse declines in threatened species and significantly reduce the overexploitation and bycatch of sharks and rays in Bangladesh through science-based, community-informed fisheries management and constituency building for stakeholder engagement. We are strengthening knowledge on the status, ecology, and trade of sharks and rays through spatially-explicit catch and bycatch assessments, fish landing site surveys, targeted interviews, and market-chain analyses; building constitutiences among fishers, fish traders and government managers for implementing measures to protect sharks and rays; and developing a ten year national strategy for conserving sharks and rays based on sound science and extensive stakeholder input.
