WCS Bangladesh discovered a major hotspot of cetacean abundance and diversity in the Swatch-of-No-Ground submarine canyon (SoNG). Based on research conducted and a proposal developed by WCS Bangladesh, the Government of Bangladesh established the country’s first marine protected area in the SoNG and adjacent coastal waters. We are currently working with the government and local communities to establish effective conservation management in the MPA.
